Founded in 2006 by Genie and Leo award winning producer Mathew Cervi, Mad Samurai Productions develops and produces dynamic independent feature films and television, with a focus on smart genre fare within Canada and through international co-productions. The company has developed and produced the features The Colony, Cruel & Unusual, most recently Juggernaut and has numerous projects being developed, packaged, and financed in its slate.
A Vancouver native, Matthew has worked for several film companies over the years including Valhalla Motion Pictures (Terminator, The Hulk), Lighthouse Productions (The Sting, Taxi Driver, Mimic), Peace Arch Entertainment and Avrio Filmworks (Mindstorm, Chaos) before starting Mad Samurai Productions and producing the Genie and Leo award winning short MILO 55160 starring Patrick McKenna.
Matthew followed that success with his first feature THE COLONY starring Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton, and Kevin Zegers. The film was released by Entertainment One in Canada and sold worldwide by Sierra/Affinity Pictures. His second feature CRUEL & UNUSUAL starring David Richmond Peck, Michael Eklund, Michelle Harrison and Richard Harmon, was produced in partnership with the Canadian Film Centre, Entertainment One, Movie Central and The Movie Network. Matthew’s latest feature JUGGERNAUT starring Jack Kesy, Amanda Crew, David Cubitt, and Peter McRobbie, was produced in partnership with Canadian distributor levelFILM and funding agencies Telefilm Canada and The Harold Greenberg Fund.
Matthew continues to develop engaging genre fare for the feature film and television landscape. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the USC School of Cinema/Television and attended the Producer’s Lab at the Canadian Film Centre.
